How are Texas Workers Comp Premiums Determined?

Premiums are determined by your payroll.  Payroll is determined by your TWC reports or forms filed for payroll taxes.

Each type of employee and duties have class code assigned to them(coverage for office staff costs a lot less than a steel worker)

Payroll for each class code is determined then applied the the rate for that particular class code

There are 2 ways premiums are paid.  Either annually up front or reporting basis.

On annual payments at the end of policy period an audit occurs to determine if you owe more or are due a refund based on actual payroll incurred

On the reporting basis you submit payroll info on a quarterly basis and send in correct premium (this can eliminate having a large invoice due in the event of increased payroll)
